Be a Gift of Writing Giver.

Set Up A TWC Workshop in Your Organization

We have established 7 on-going writing workshops in shelters and community centers reaching out to the homeless, youth at risk, abused women, the LGBTQ community, Aboriginal communities, and those in conflict with the law.  We continue to expand our programs and have a number of additional community organizations ready to encourage voice.

Each workshop is profound in its own way. Participating writers, often coming from harsh lived histories, experience the power of seeing and being seen by others. It is this discovered, acknowledged potential that creates positive transformation.

Partner Organizations

Established in 2012 as a non-profit corporation by founder Susan Turk, the Toronto Writers Collective offers free creative writing workshops throughout the GTA, facilitating voice and empowering the silent in our city. We support the transformational power of being heard.

In 2014, we formed a partnership with Ve’ahavta, and received a Trillium Grant from the Government of Ontario. This grant will help us grow our writing workshop program. In addition to workshops for the Creative Writing Program, we support Ve’ahavta’s annual citywide writing contest, “Words from the Street” a celebration of unheard stories from those underserved in our communities, as well as their educational Street Academy program.

  • We have also received a grant from the Toronto Arts Council
  • We plan to obtain our own charitable status
  • We embrace the opportunity for future partnerships with other community builders to develop on going and accessible programming in writing, literacy, and the arts.
