The WCC is not a membership-based organization; its workshops are open to all members of the public.

Workshops provided through WCC Program Partners may be exclusive to that partner’s own members.

Look for public and private workshops to join in our workshop calendar.

To join a WCC workshop, simply find a workshop on our calendar that suits you. Click on the workshop for registration details.

WCC workshops are free for participants. Participants are encouraged to donate on an as-able basis.

You may become a WCC facilitator directly through the WCC, or through a Program Partner. Please refer to our Become a Volunteer Facilitator page for all the details.

Individuals who are accepted to WCC’s regular Volunteer Facilitator Training program receive the training free and are expected to commit to providing at least 10 weeks of volunteer workshop facilitation.

There may be different terms for individuals who receive the training through a Program Partner.

Yes, there is no limit to the number of workshops you attend in a week, although workshop numbers are capped and often fill up.

While the WCC’s primary focus is on providing writing workshops based on our unique methodology, there may be opportunities to have our writers’ work highlighted by the WCC. These include:

  • Our Favourite Lines social media program, which your facilitator will tell you about at the end of each workshop
  • Inclusion in a future Front Lines anthology—stay tuned to this website, our social media, and newsletter to receive information when this occurs (it is funding-dependent)
  • Occasional contests—stay tuned to this website, our social media, and newsletter to receive information when these occur (they are funding-dependent)
  • Occasional WCC newsletter features— stay tuned to this website, our social media, and newsletter to receive information when these occur

For many more opportunities to be published or mentored, please refer to our Resources for Writers page.

WCC workshops are inclusive of race, ethnicity, class, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, and mental health.

For WCC’s Open Workshops, participants must be 19 years or older, unless otherwise stated (for example, workshops for youth are sometimes offered). Private Workshops offered by Program Partners may have different age restrictions.

In addition, workshops through some of our Program Partners may include scribes, ASL signing, and other supports for differently abled writers.

Virtual workshops do require internet access and the ability to login to the Zoom web-conferencing platform.

There are several ways for organizations and individuals to join the WCC in its mission:

Regular donations can be made via our Donations page. We also welcome Sponsors.

We provide tax receipts for donations of $50 and above.

Yes. One of WCC’s core beliefs is that everyone is a writer, regardless of previous experience or education. All voices are welcome in a WCC workshop!
