WCC workshops are free for participants. Participants are encouraged to donate on an as-able basis.

In every WCC community writing workshop, trained volunteer facilitators ignite deep connection and illuminate the magnificent voice of every person. The impact is immediate and wide-reaching.

If you would like to become a WCC facilitator, please refer to our Become a Volunteer Facilitator page details.

Individuals who are accepted to WCC’s regular Volunteer Facilitator Training program receive the training free and are expected to commit to providing at least 10 weeks of volunteer workshop facilitation.

There may be different terms for individuals who receive the training through a Program Partner.

Yes, there is no limit to the number of workshops you attend in a week. Most workshops cap the number of attendees and they often fill up, so register as soon as you can.

WCC workshops focus on the process of writing in community, deeply listening, and providing affirming feedback. over the “product”. While we do not focus on publishing, we do look for opportunities to amplify the magnificent voices and stunning writing that emerges from our workshops.

This includes:

  • With each writer’s permission, we share lines submitted by WCC writers on our social media channels. Watch our newsletter and social channels for the prompts to respond to!
  • Our special Write On! program results in publication in WCC-produced anthologies and chapbooks, strives to amplify the voices of WCC writers through education, mentorship, and publication. The program is dependent on funding and may not be offered on a regular basis.
  • When possible, we partner with other arts-based organizations, such as Toronto International Festival of Writers (TIFA), Art of Time Ensemble, Theater of War, and others to amplify the magnificent authentic voices of WCC writers through performance and artistic collaboration.

For many more opportunities to be published or mentored, please refer to our Resources for Writers page.

WCC workshops are inclusive of race, ethnicity, class, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, and mental health.

For WCC’s Open Workshops, participants must be 19 years or older, unless otherwise stated (for example, workshops for youth are sometimes offered). Private Workshops offered by Program Partners may have different age restrictions.

In addition, workshops through some of our Program Partners may include scribes, ASL signing, and other supports for differently abled writers.

Virtual workshops do require internet access and the ability to login to the Zoom web-conferencing platform.
