Writers Collective of Canada expands public libraries programs with support from TD Bank Group

Categories: News & Updates

Writers Collective of Canada (WCC) will receive support from TD Bank Group (TD)  for its Re/writing Connection public libraries program. It will enable WCC to amplify its public library programming across the country, allowing the proven benefits of the program to build connections within and between communities—making neighbours out of neighbourhoods.

With the new funding, WCC will expand its work with local branch librarians over the coming year. WCC will co-design programs for their communities, including offering workshop spaces, successfully promoting programs, and help recruiting volunteers as peer-leaders to train as volunteers and sustain our workshops within the community. Public libraries are also ideal spaces where WCC will hold public readings, spoken word events and panel discussions that amplify writers’ stories, expand perspectives and connect around shared lived experiences.

Robyn Small, Senior Manager, Philanthropy, Sustainability & Corporate Citizenship at TD, said: “At TD, we believe that strong communities are built through connection. Through the TD Ready Commitment, we’re proud to support initiatives like Re/writing Connection that help bring people together, amplify voices, and foster a sense of belonging in local communities.”

Shelley Lepp, Chief Executive Officer at WCC, said: “WCC is grateful for the support of innovative funders like TD to support accessible—and increasingly necessary—community programs like ours. Simple, scalable and accessible to those in greatest need, Re/writing Connection meets people where they are, using innovative partnerships and existing public infrastructure to bring communities together through art-making at public libraries across Canada.”
